Todd Defren's Letter to Millennials →
A straight-to-the-point letter of what to do and what not to do for people entering the work world. This post on Todd Defren’s blog created a lot of comments and buzz, a good portion being negative. Personally, I enjoyed his frankness and I think it is what us millennials need to hear. Sometimes it gets sickening hearing, “You’ll be fine,” “You will have no problem...

I finished my first book on the iPad
I finished reading Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang on my iPad the other day. First of all, if you enjoy laughing out loud I highly recommend her book. Here is a roundup of my experience:
I read faster-It only took me a bus ride to NYC to finish the whole book. I don’t know if I was racing through the words just so I could get to the fun part of turning the pages,...

My iPad Got Dissed
After having the iPad for over a week, I am finally ready to talk about it. Instead of going point by point through my likes and dislikes, I’m going to tell a story. In my editing and publishing class it came up that I got an iPad ( I still feel like a spoiled brat) and a debate ensued. A select few claimed they were “purists” and couldn’t imagine not having books in the...

Color E-book Reader for Kids
The iPad’s arrival Saturday is the buzz of the tech/publishing world (it seems to be all that I have been blogging about too). So as we hold our breaths in anticipation, lets shift our focus to something for the younger folk out there…kids.
Story Book inColor by AIPTEK is an e-reader specifically for children. The website describes it as “the 1st color E-Book on the market...

The Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) digital conference was held March 18th in New York City. The theme of the conference this year was “Magazines 24/7: The E-Reading Revolution.“

HarperStudio using Formspring
Debbie Stier, SVP, Associate Publisher of HarperStudio has been using the social platform Formspring to answer questions on behalf of the company. Debbie said that in the wake of announcing the President, Bob Miller was resigning, there has been an influx of questions, so she took to Formspring with the instruction, ask me anything. This in turn has led to days of open conversation about the...

It's Ordered!
I am lucky enough to have an amazingly thoughtful boyfriend who got me the best birthday gift ever…an iPad! I pre-ordered it last night and am so excited to receive it to play with it and figure out all the features. I do know that after April 3rd I am REALLY not going to want to do anymore school work.
Who else is getting an iPad?

E-book Pricing Breakdown
I’ve never been a math person (I like words better) so it’s no wonder e-book pricing has confused me. This New York Times article broke it down fairly well and I think I can now point out the difference between what Amazon is offering with the Kindle compared to what Apple will have with the iPad and how e-books compare overall with the traditional book.
The break down: On average...

The Library: a thing of the past
Last week Boston.com posted an article about the possibility of Boston branch libraries closing. The article, written by Boston Globe staff writer Andrew Ryan, said that cuts in state funding for the Boston Public Library are forcing officials to come up with cost-saving measures like reducing hours, layoffs and…closing locations.
This news doesn’t surprise me. When I was younger I...

Haven’t heard about Vook? You should get familiar.
What is it: A vook takes reading to a whole new level by combining a written book with high-quality video to create the ultimate storytelling experience. Vooks are essentially e-books that have multiple video clips in the sidebar that play as the story moves along. They can be downloaded as a web-based application to view on your...
Books can be possessive, can’t they? You’re walking around in a bookstore and a...

foursquare: On foursquare, location & privacy... →
Why hello!
A lot of you asking for our thoughts in light of the “People can use foursquare to rob houses!” thesis making the rounds so we figured we’d weigh in with our perspective. Two things:
#1. We take your privacy very seriously. That’s why every time you checkin we ask you whether…

Gary Vaynerchuk Sells Free
Gary Vaynerchuk’s book Crush It! Why Now is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion was released in October 2009. It was wildly popular in its first few weeks with a #1 spot on the Amazon Bestseller List for web marketing books, opened at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list and #7 on the Wall Street Journal Bestseller List. He definitely crushed it.
Four months later though, he...
